Dr. Suman Samanta PhD student of DBS working with Prof. Rupak Datta has won the First Prize in Category A (Photos of Science) at Science in Focus 2026, a national science communication competition held under the India Science Festival. The selected image, titled “Silent Battle: SEM of a Macrophage Engulfing Leishmania Parasite,” has been recognized with a cash prize of ₹30,000. Science in Focus is the flagship annual competition of the Foundation for Advancing Science and Technology (FAST India), highlighting impactful scientific imagery and visual storytelling. The selected work was showcased during the India Science Festival, which was held this year at IISER Pune.

ABOUT THE COURSE:
This course provides the fundamental concepts of mass spectrometry (ESI-MS and MALDI-MS), de novo sequencing from tandem-MS, application of soft-ionisation mass spectrometry in the discovery of disease biomarkers using Proteomics based approach, understanding molecular mechanism of biochemical events and human diseases in terms of structural changes of protein and its posttranslational modifications using Native-MS and Hydrogen/Deuterium Exchange-MS and imaging of various cancerous tissues to generate its molecular portrait using Imaging-MS platform.
